Amazon Advantage: How to Succeed with Amazon

Did you know that you can write, publish and sell your own writing on Amazon? And it's not as hard or expensive as you could think.

It is based on a system called Amazon Advantage. An advantage is a system that allows writers (and others) to publish their own books and sell them to all of the world through the Amazon page.

So how can you make money from writing with Amazon Advantage?

First, you need to write something. It could be a book or a manual. Instructions or files. Anything you really want. Your novel. Short stories. Plays or poetry collections. Or what about children's book? Or recipe book? A gardening or DIY book? Or your own travel guide … this can be a big seller on Amazon.

Next, you need to sign up with Amazon: All you need to become a publisher with Amazon Advantage is access to the internet, email and bank account to get your payments. You must either be an publisher or have distribution rights for the books you want to sell. Annual membership is chargeable but there are no fees for registering books.

Now you must use as an ISBN or international standard number for your book. Once you have this, it must (or should) be registered automatically on the Amazon system. There is a small fee for receiving an ISBN from the local ISBN agency.

Further: If you want to sell your paperwork, you need copies of copies. A cheap and effective way to do this is to use Print On Demand or POD version … as you do not have to print or pay for any books until you have been instructed. If you do not want to go to the cost of printing the book (or do not get the money to do that) you can sell your book as a book on Amazon too.

Books can be a very good option because books are hot news at the moment. Just put your book together as a PDF document. The advantage of this is that you will also be able to sell it in Amazon's Kindle Bookstore.

Here's what happens when you sell your writing using Amazon Advantage: Amazon will order your original stock. The book then goes for sale on Amazon and is shown to buyers around the world – millions of them. As books sell Amazon ships them out for you, collect payment and pay it to your bank account without their fee. Then repeat more supplies from you as needed.

Amazon takes up to 60% commission on your selling price that seems a lot. But bearing in mind that they work most of the work, I think it's fair. If you say you book your book at £ 10 then you get £ 4 for each sold copy. Sell 1,000 and you will turn over £ 4,000. Sell 10,000 and you could turn over £ 40,000.

If it's easier to publish and sell my own writing to the world, I've still found it! You do not need an publisher, distributor, wholesaler, sales team or warehouse full of stock – Amazon do everything for you. And you will benefit from the creation of your name and good reputation too.
